Fresh branding for Bayes-Shelton Consulting
Personal branding has a multitude of benefits in today’s working environments, but it’s particularly relevant for people who provide contract/freelance services as an individual.
Background
Fellow consultant Oliver Bayes-Shelton offers multiple services - often switching from Fractional CTO to Lead Engineer to Mentor in the space of a week. A seasoned leader in the world of startups, Oliver’s skill set is also varied. His brand needed to appeal to business founders, corporate venture builders and even fellow engineers. Sensitively toe-ing the line between useful employee and leader, according to each business’s needs.
While adept at finding new clients within his network, he found it hard to clearly articulate his overall offer in a way that resonated and that didn’t misrepresent the individual services.
Beyond messaging, Oliver also wanted a slick new look and feel, referencing architect studio branding for their typically minimalist identity. This was developed by Dom Rugman of Dom® Studio.
The work
Through an interactive online session, I worked with Oliver initially to better understand the technical aspects of each of his roles and identify the benefits clients experience as a result of those service offers. Once agreed on the detail and proof points, messaging was written for each in an authentic and compelling tone. Lastly, we developed his overarching brand proposition, to sit above each service and bring them together in a succinct way.
Beyond my own work, I also supported in the creation of a brand identity which further enhanced the proposition, and wrote copy for his personal and company LinkedIn pages. Additional social content was also provided to re-announce the services to his existing network on LinkedIn.
